Summary
This proposal advocates for funding Lighthouse, a cutting-edge governance lab designed to enhance the Uniswap DAO’s on-chain governance experience.
In addition to providing a modern voting experience we also deliver a secure messaging platform that can be used to reach UNI holders who have installed the Lighthouse native mobile app.
We have also recently publicly made available work on our own Signals Protocol, (https://github.com/0xLighthouse/signals) a new idea we have developed to augment on-chain governance and introduce new metagovernance dynamics.
We are requesting $125,000 annually for two years to support the ongoing development and integration of Lighthouse’s governance interface and Research & Development to the metagovernance space.
By establishing a relationship with Lighthouse, the Uniswap DAO will benefit from a more user-friendly, secure, and versatile governance tool that complements existing platforms and promotes decentralisation and also have a key seat in discussions in our upcoming protocol developments.
Motivation
While web interfaces have been a valuable tool to assist the Uniswap DAO, it’s essential for the DAO’s decentralisation, proliferation and resilience to have multiple robust governance interfaces and platforms.
Specifically native mobile.
Lighthouse offers unique features:
- A native mobile voting client
- Real time push notifications
- A trustless way to connect with other Delegates (soon)
- Voting on Proposals via Multisig
- Consolidated TEMP checks and formal voting.
This funding will bring the following benefits:
Promote Diversity in Governance Tools: Multiple platforms ensure that no single point of failure exists and that users have options that suit their preferences. More importantly fund research & development of native mobile voting platforms.
Enhance User Experience: Lighthouse focuses on user-centric design, making governance more accessible to both new and experienced participants though our native mobile interface.
Basic modern features: Between 2019 and 2022, the time spent using mobile apps for global users increased by approximately 46 percent. If we expect governance and decentralisation to take root in a broader audience, we need to invest in native and user-friendly experiences. Expecting an everyday user to sign up to Discord to get important notifications is just not a good experience.
Introduce Advanced Features: Our roadmap includes innovative functionalities that will set new standards in DAO governance and on-chain collaboration whilst working with symbiotic protocols such as:
- Hats Protocol (on-chain permissions)
- Joke Race (Council elections)
- Waku (E2E encrypted chat)
- LivePeer/Huddle01 (Token Gated Audio spaces)
- Farcaster and Lens.
Bolster Credibility to Lighthouse: We are a bootstrapped company that has already made significant progress, with a live product and support for a wide range of protocols and governance groups. Establishing this relationship with Uniswap will help build awareness of the amazing work we have already done and highlight our intention to become a valuable contributor and thinker in the governance space.
Achievements to date
Dedicated iOS and Android applications: Mobile development is notoriously hard. Dan Romeo (Warpcast) Was seeking 300k for a staff level React Native developer - https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0x6299d85e . Our experienced team has delivered an app that is on par with VC funded companies.
Metagovernance innovation: We are more than just a voting app. We have set out to build a wide range of technologies that make decentralised decision-making more effective, efficient, and fun. We are working towards a future where real-world decision-making systems can effortlessly be onboarded to take advantage of the unique benefits of web3.
Our most recent contribution to this domain is the Signals Protocol — https://github.com/0xLighthouse/signals, which was recently developed in collaboration with RNDAO with feedback from key members of the metagovernance community. (Tally, Aragon, Gitcoin, Arbitrum, Factory DAO)
We view governance as a technology we wish to accelerate.
