Cross-Chain Bridge Assessment Process

Greetings to the Uniswap community,

I want to take this opportunity to nominate myself for the PM role in the Cross-Chain Assessment Process outlined by @devinwalsh.

I’m Arjun Chand, Research Lead at LI.FI (a bridge aggregator supporting 13 bridges).

Background and Qualifications

As a bridge aggregator, it’s crucial that LI.FI understands the strengths and weaknesses of different bridges as this helps us decide what each bridge brings to the table and, at the same time, the trade-offs they’ve made to be able to provide that functionality. Since the beginning, we’ve invested time and resources into learning about bridges and educating users and developers about them. I’ve been working with LI.FI as a Researcher since the company’s inception and have spearheaded the Research efforts along with meaningful contributions in marketing and business development.

In the past 1.5 years, we’ve researched the bridging landscape extensively, publishing several articles, including:

  • Bridge analysis frameworks – We’ve created frameworks to break down the different bridge types and help users and developers understand the various trade-offs they’ve made.

Navigating Arbitrary Messaging Bridges: A Comparison Framework – breakdown of all the differentiating messaging bridges (including all the bridges in review for this proposal)

With Bridges, Trust is a Spectrum: an analysis of different bridges’ design trade-offs. We’ve also worked on a quantified framework for the same.

Crosschain Risk Framework: a high-level systematic overview of the security risks in cross-chain protocols and a set of risk controls and best practices to mitigate the likelihood and severity of risks.

  • Bridge deep dives – we’ve written comprehensive deep dives on bridges like Connext, Hop, Multichain, cBridge, Hyphen, Across, and others, covering their architecture and design, how they work, security assumptions, and features.

  • Bridge ecosystem overview articles that provide readers with a better understanding of the current bridging landscape and different concepts related to bridges.

The Bridge Stack: a snapshot of the bridging industry.

What are Blockchain Bridges and How Can We Classify Them?: a breakdown of trusted vs. trustless bridges

Blockchain Bridges: everything you need to know about bridges (written for Ethereum.org)

  • Cross-Chain Insider Substack that provides weekly updates related to bridges and the multi-chain ecosystem along with simplified breakdowns of everything happening in the bridging ecosystem.

I believe we can build upon, combine, and quantify some of this work to build the Cross-Chain Bridge Assessment Framework for Uniswap.

Closing Remarks

I have spent the last 18 months learning about different bridge designs and their strengths and weaknesses. I have developed a good understanding of how they work and what each has to offer. I have no conflicts of interest here as LI.FI is a bridge aggregator, which means we’re neutral and unbiased when selecting bridges, and I abide by these principles.

I would love to contribute to building the Cross-Chain Bridge Assessment Framework and become a part of the bridge selection committee as the PM.

Thank you!
